After several months of being overlooked for adoption at a no-kill shelter, Donny’s life took a turn when Coastal K9 rescued him in December 2024. Today, he’s thriving outside the kennel and has been happily living with his foster family for the past few weeks. Here’s an update from his foster mom.

“Donny is a great dog with a “chill” disposition. He would make a great companion dog. Likes to follow the human pack inside the house and yearns for pets, hugs, belly rubs and praise. He is easily trainable since he is food driven. He is pretty independent and will lounge around until you are ready to give him attention or go for a walk.

When he is outdoors, he is curious and very prey focused. He searches the yard for lizards, birds and rabbits. He alerts us to unexpected noises or movement. Donny loves to go for walks and drives. He is playful and animated for short periods of time. Donny likes stuffed toys and being chased when he has a ball or toy.

Sometimes on a walk Donny will be very focused on a scent and not want to continue walking. He can be stubborn at times and will protest because he wants to keep sniffing, but can be easily coaxed with treats and praise. Donny is capable of socializing with smaller dogs with gentle dispositions. Currently still uncomfortable around medium and large dogs.”

This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
