He’s our second longest stay dog and our friendliest one too. Despite having been at our Bonita shelter for 487 days, he continues to give everyone a smile and tail wag. He’s has been apart of our Dog Day Out program, leaving the shelter on field trips and has received a lot of praise from the volunteers saying:

10/01/24 15:42 Had a great time with Dutch. He was so sweet and chill. Went for a trail walk and he was a little skittish around bicyclists especially with bells. We then went to a park and chilled for a bit and relaxed in the shade. He was very sweet.

11/03/24 Friendly with people: Loved getting pets, even by strangers that we just met.

Energetic: He had a lot of energy. We walked 4.5 miles in Mission Trails and he still wanted to run around in the backyard when we got home.

Good walker on leash: After the initial pulling on leash because he was excited to get out, he was a very good walker! He later walked very nicely in heel and didn't pull at all.

Fine with other dogs: He seemed good with other dogs on the trail and in the neighborhood. We did have a GSD barking at us when we entered PetSmart which scared him. He never barked or growled.

Good on car rides: He enjoyed the ride and stayed calm. He occasionally had his head out the window but preferred sitting in the middle with view over the arm rest to the front most of the ride.

Very attentive: Even during our walks or in the backyard playing he was very good at paying attention to me when I asked him to. When dogs passed by and asked him to look at me, I was able to get his attention with a treat very easily. He seemed overall very well behaved.

Cuddly: He loves being pet and cuddled and will actively seek human touch.

01/05/25 12:04 Did well in the car- looked out the window but also lying down to rest. Strong on leash but well-behaved and easy going. Did well on trail walk, saw other dogs playing and got excited and seemed like he wanted to play.

Dutch is also the shelters go to dog for evaluating other dogs’ sociability.
